At Spruce Pint Taproom, we believe that the best stories are found right here in the community – and that includes the story of the ground we stand on. Our foundation is built on deep Spruce Pine history, and we’ve poured our passion into transforming a storied location into your new favorite community hub.
In the 1940’s, this property was home to one of the early ESSO stations in the area. Afterwards and for over five decades, this very spot on Oak Avenue was the heartbeat of local service: the long-standing home of Canipes Esso / Exxon and Wrecker Service. From the 1960s onward, this garage was a cornerstone of the town, defined by the hard work and dedication of its owner, the late Ernest Canipe. For fifty-two years, Mr. Canipe provided crucial towing, recovery, and fuel services, becoming not just a businessman but a reliable and essential local legend who helped countless people get back on the road.
When you walk through our doors today, you are stepping onto the ground where tow trucks once waited, where mechanics fixed engines, and where the daily rhythm of a tireless local service station played out. We honor that tradition of service, community, and dedication that defined Canipes Wrecker Service for generations.
Today, we’ve retired the grease and the tow hooks to make way for gleaming taps and comfortable tables. Our mission is to transform the site of historic local necessity into a new kind of gathering place – one focused on relaxation, conversation, and the simple pleasure of a perfectly poured craft beverage.
Spruce Pint Taproom is more than just a place to drink; it’s a celebration of Spruce Pine’s enduring spirit. We invite you to sit down, share a pint, and create new memories right here, on the same historic corner where generations of hard work, grit, and community service first defined Oak Avenue.
